Ideas for the logo

These our the first ideas we have for the logo. I used a website to find some fonts I thought we could use. These our some of the ones I liked the best.

We asked 20 people what name they thought was best for our artist.

10 people thought Tia was best
5 people thought Ali was best
5 people thought Alesha was best

14 people thought our artist shouldn't have a surname
6 people thought out artist should have a surname

Change of Artist

Unfortunately we have had to change the artist for our music video, this is due to scheduling problems. We have canged our artist to Yvette, and we are really confident that she will do a great job. She understands the image we are trying to create for our artist. She has already started learning the song off by heart and is just as excited as we are to start filming.

Videos that influenced us- Cheryl Cole 'The Flood'

Duresh
  • This music video really interested me, there were lots of parts that I liked and I strongly think we could use them in our music video but differently off course. The first idea I like was when the artist is sitting near the window and looking outside, this creates the sense that she is lost in her own thoughts. I think we will use this idea but we should end with her sitting near the window because it suggests that she is still thinking about him and is waiting for him and this is what our song is mainly about.
·         The second idea that I enjoyed was when the artist is in bed and she is thinking about her partner who she is missing. I think this could also work well with our music video because the artist is moving around the house and everything there reminds her of her partner who used to be there. This bed scene could really work if she lays there and turns to the place where he was meant to be but he isn’t there anymore.

From watching these music videos we have to make a note to ourselves: TO INCLUDE LOTS OF CUT-AWAYS AND CHANGE LOCATIONS

Sarah
  • I really like the concept of this video, it is simple but works effectively for the ballad style of the song without making it feel to slow. I think this would be something we would like to achieve for our music video. The song is quite sad, but the pace isn't too slow and we could learn from this video and try to create the same interesting use of simple locations but make the editing more fast paced.
  • The shot where the artist is sitting in front of the window is really striking and creates a sense of longing that we are also trying to create in our video, so it would be a great shot to use in our video, particularly change the framing to suit our video.
  • I like the use of cutaways to the sea in this video, if we could incorporate this into our video using the couples possessions this could work really well in our video.
  • The use of the candle flame is particularly interesting to watch and looks really effective.

Becky
One shot that i have been influenced by is the window shot where Cheryl sitting curled up looking out towards the ocean. This could also be seen as she is thinking about her old relatioship and all the memories that they had.
The dark lighting both inside and outside the house reflect the emotions she is feeling and the overall mood of the song.
At the beginning of the video where Cheryl walks to the window, the lighting represents the mood inside the house as its pitch black and we the audience can only see Cheryl's shadow. This can signify that the mood Cheryl is feeling is upset and confused.
The cut aways shots such as the waves, parting of hands and the match help tell the narrative of the music video. From watching this video i think that the waves are used to connect it to the name of the song 'Flood' as in the waves keep on coming and could be destroying the memories of the relationship.
I think the shot that i remember most is the cut away of the hands drifting apart. This in my opinion helps tell the narrative of the song; that the relationship broke.
At 0:35 the shot of Cheryl turning in the bed influenced me to use that concept in our music video. This shot for me represents that she is on her side now and that because the other side is empty, the relationship has ended and there are two separate sides now, instead of one.
The blowing out the match at 1:53 signifies the relationship ending. In my opinion the match on fire represents the relationship, but Cheryl blowing it out represents that the relationship is out, just like the fire.
I think overall, the music video consists of many close ups to represent the emotions that Cheryl is feeling and using close up allows the audience to feel those as well as we are so close to the singers face because of the close ups.
From this music video i can see that using cut aways that associate with the music video makes it more effective in terms of how the audience receives the message/story of the music video.

Videos that influence us- Adele 'Make You Feel My Love'

Duresh

·         This music video contains the artist being in one location and we like this because it focuses on the emotive side of the song. We, as a group have decided that we will also we recording in a house, however, we do want to change the location slightly so our artist will be moving around the house- going to different rooms. We will do this because it sets the sense that the house is empty without the male artist and the female artist can feel the loneliness through his things being there. We have also decided that we will be going to Richmond Hill to record the performance side of the song.
·         Another idea that influenced us from this music video is that the artist wear’s her boyfriend’s jumper. I like this idea very much because it shows that the artist is feeling lonely and she is missing him. Also the lyric of our song is ‘I’m still here’- this suggests that the female artist is waiting for him to come back. She wants things to go back to normal and we can examine this through the lyrics of the song.
·         Also idea that I like is when the artist is near the window and the music video ends on an extreme close-up of her face this clearly states her facial expressions on her face.

Sarah
  • I feel the camera movement is very effective, it creates a sense of realism which helps to connect the audience with the song and the emotions in it. This also makes the audience feel a connection with the artist.
  • The dark lighting in this video is very effective as it reflects the emotions of the song and the lonliness.
  • The shots of the artist being reflected in the video are really interesting and create a great effect, as we want to have a shot of our artist sitting by a window perhaps we could try and incorporate a shot similar to this.

Becky

The location helps set up the mood of the music video as she is alone in an apartment thats in a loud city. This suggests to the audience that she is isolating herself. By having this location it also helps focus on the artist only and the emotions she is feeling.
The dark lighting also represents the mood she is in, which i think is lonliness and sadness as the only bright light that is used is for being able to see the artist as she sings.
I think overall this music video is effective as its so simple. This music video is effective as the use of many close ups helps us the audience focus on the artist and the lyrics she is singing.
As its emotional song, the music video helps give that message across because of the dark lighting and close ups.

Videos that influence us- McFly 'That's The Truth'

Duresh

·      This music video is mainly based on performance and the main artist is playing an electric guitar that influenced us. We want to use the performance base and change it slightly by making it a solo instead of a band and making our artist play a guitar.
·      This video also contains the actor coming home to an empty house where his partner has left him. This also influenced us because ‘I’m still here’ is an emotional song and we want to use something like this. However, the only thing we want to change is that our main location will be the house where the artist starts off and end it there.
·      The male actor goes through his partners things which also influences us because we want to involve something like this is our music video. We want our to show the emotions of the song through her facial expressions.

Sarah
  • This video uses two locations, one with one of the band members, Dougie, coming home to find his girlfriend has left. This is particularly interesting as the girlfriend leaving is implied through the shots of the room used such as the draws with clothes hanging out which suggests other clothes have been taken out of them, a shots of Dougie reading a note suggesting she left a note to tell him she has gone, and broken  picture frames. This could be something we could use in our video, as we want to imply that the relationship is not working and her boyfriend has gone.
  • The other location used is a warehouse, where the band perform. The use of bright lighting in this location is a complete contrast to the dark lighting used in the bedroom. This could be something we could incorporate into our music video, as we want to shoot a performance element outside. We could shoot during the day to create a brighter atmosphere and shoot the inside scenes in a darker light.

Becky

At the beginning of the music video there is a instrumental which shows the narrative of the song and music video which can set the overall tone.

This music video shows the typical conventions of a breakup song - performance in empty place, person thinking about the relationship, smashing things out of anger.

At the end of the music video where the guy looks at the bed with the two pillows can suggest that he misses his ex and that they should be together as there are two pillows on the bed.

Overall this song is quite upbeat which is a juxtaposition to the music video as the narrative is quite lonely and upset.

    Mindmap of the artist's name.

The three names hightlighted in green are the ones we like the best. Then we went around asking people which name will go with our artist the best. The name they liked the best was:

    Tia..

    Problem with artist...

We have chosen an artist Saira K Majeed but the problem is that she could not record with us for more than a week and we would not be able to finish recording in one week. Therefore, we need to find another artist for our music video.
The main problem is that we have given her a name that fit her image so now we need to find an artist and then perhaps change the artist name as well

    Lyric Analysis

This is the lyric analysis for the song "I'm Still Here" By Cady Groves

    Call Sheet

These are the people we have asked to be our artist and are choosing between:
    • Saira
    • Yvette

Both would be really great as our artist. As a precaution we have decided that I (Sarah) will be the back-up artist.

    Original storyboard

    Pitch outline

    Mindmap of our idea

    Everyone's Roles in the Group

To make our group organised we have given everyone a role, which is:
Sarah: Comes up with the main concept (but everyone will give ideas towards it). Coming up with actors. Created the group blog (but everyone posts on it). Backstage pictures. Writing the pitch. Helping with props (with Duresh)
Becky: Decides the locations. Camera women. In charge to get in torch with the artist. Coming up with actors. Editor
Duresh: Costume designer and make up artist. Editor. Overall plan. Coming up with actors.

    Change of Song!!!

Now we have changed our song to: ‘I’m still here’- Cady Groves. As a group we were beginning to have doubts about the ability to do the Alex Roots song Put Your Hands Up. I found a new song after scouring the internet to find another song that would work well. Sarah has also developed a concept and we are currently working as a group to develop these idea further. This is what we have so far.
    Our idea:
    ·         The girl comes to an empty house where her and her boyfriend used to live.
    ·         She puts the keys on the table
    ·         Cuts to her playing guitar
    ·         Pictures on the wall of the couple
    ·         Drinking coffee and looking outside the window
    ·         The main performance is done in Richmond park hill at night (her playing guitar)

    Problems with our idea...

Our idea was very difficult in terms of recording, we needed:
    ·         About 15-20 people for the house party- this was a problem because this could disturb the residents around the house. Also the matter of getting the people is someone’s house could create lots of problems.  E.g. cleaning up after them
    ·         We had a shot which involved the group to go outside the house for recording- we could face the same problem with the residents having a problem.
    ·         More than one camera- problem because there are other people who are recording at the same time as us and there are not enough resources for us to record.
    ·         Also the whole process of us outing up the lights outside on the street which is difficult.
    ·         Main problem is coming up with dance steps for the song.
    ·         Also the whole concept seemed a little child-like so we had to change it.

Our first idea for our main task

For our main task, our main idea was to do the song ‘Put Your Hands Up’ by Alex Root who is an unknown artist. Here are our ideas for that particular song:
    ·         Starts with the girl in her room, singing on her bed.
    ·         Gets out the house and two of her friends join her (we have dance steps for the up beat music)
    ·         Different location: - Central London, Home (bedroom scene), outside the house (high street), Richmond park.
We also decided that we were going to these songs to pick out scenes and shots that inspire us to do ours:
    ·         With your love
    ·         Boys and Girls
    ·         Girl’s just wana have fun. Etc…
